.Mac not working with OS X 10.4.11 Tiger

Well here’s what’s happening to me:

.Mac Preference Pane

Account Tab

Initially I had trouble adding the account. But that eventually worked so it recognizes me now.

Sync Tab

Clicking the Synchronize with .Mac checkbox and it doesn’t stay checked. It just unchecks itself instantly.

The Menu bar extra installs properly, but when I choose Sync Now I see this:

.Mac sync failure message dialog box

.Mac sync failure message dialog box

iDisk

Recognizes the account and quota.

Advanced

The Register This Computer button has no effect.

If you search the MobileMe help for “10.4″ or “Tiger” you do not get any useful results. I think Apple is being a bit “Leopardist” here.

26th July Followup

I found help on discussions.apple.com that said to try deleting all the dotmac preference files and restarting. I didn’t do this on the home Mac but it started working anyway! Maybe Apple fixed something.

In order to assist others in their troubleshooting, I have saved the info shown to me from Little Snitch:
